Part 1: Overview of UTOPIA

Hi, welcome back. I'm back with another new analytical blog on Travis Scott’s latest album “UTOPIA” Let's get into it.

The overall album portrays the journey of three phases of utopia. Searching for Utopia, hunting it everywhere, whether that be in his materialistic possessions or a place, the last phase is finding it, some claim this album as being a “Yeezus” but a Travis Version or a Travis Style's Mr. Big Morale.

A: About UTOPIA

The album came out on 28th July 2023, remarking the comeback of Travis Scott after Astroworld in 2018.

So, obviously fans had expectations.

When it came out, there were mixed reviews, while some fans had found their bliss in the album, but fans weren’t satisfied with it all, just seeming like a heavy Buffet of experimental vocals, eerie music, melodies, and basses with lack of lyrical ingredients but at some points, the the lyrical blanks has been filled so subtly.

The album is no less than Travis's House Party. Come on, it features Teezo Touchdown, Drake, Playboi Carti, Beyoncé, Rob49, 21 Savage, the Weeknd, Swae Lee, Yung Lean, Dave Chappelle, Young Thug, Westside Gunn, Kid Cudi, Bad Bunny, SZA, Future, and James Blake.

But I can’t be so quick to draw conclusions. According to some sources, Utopia was about to be dropped in late 2021 but someone else had already booked its landing

“The Astroworld Tragedy”

One of the largest crowd crashes ever. Regardless of Travis being or not being responsible, he received what he was supposed to.

Community backlash and public scrutiny. Stormi, Travis’s daughter, claimed to have witnessed the tragedy too, for which he was gifted with even more trolls.

10 people lost their lives and Travis went on a hiatus. Here’s what Travis came back with.

When asked about utopia, Travis shared his ideology of Utopia saying,

“Everyone’s Utopia is Different”

Here’s the main statement that our guy gave;

“You think Utopia is a society. Where everything is good: health, buildings, architecture-nah. It's just about proper lines of communication. Because that's the dystopian shit we're in right now. It's all hate, hate, hate, and all of that is drawn from what? Miscommunication, non- communication, non- understandable communication, ignorance to communication.”

B. Contents of UTOPIA

This album speaks of Kanye's influence on Travis, Jenner’s relationship with Travis, Stormi’s bond, the Astroworld tragedy, Drugs, dealing with fame, and his well-wishers, his Demons.

It is more than just an album for travis.

Some tracks on the album are so gloomy carrying a melancholic tone, a druggy vibe and you feel like you’re floating and some totally contrast the aerial vibes and shivers down your spine and curdle your blood.

Part 2: The Plot of the album

I was taught the importance of chronological order a month ago and this album seems to have given me my certificate of learning.

The middle phase of “Finding Utopia” is the longest one on the album and at the end we see Travis actually finding his utopia, which again is not his hotel room, in God's country or at the Del resto, it resides in his mind.

You see, all the 19 tracks are put into a chronological order which itself narrates a tale.

The first track, Hyaena. It is a strong anthem layered with a dark theme of devils.

This track is perfect to set off the beginning of the journey to find UTOPIA by addressing his sins and struggles with his demons.

There are three phases of album:

1. Search of UTOPIA

2. Struggles & Hunting for the UTOPIA

3. Finding UTOPIA

His attempts to find utopia, which again is not an easy task because he's getting distracted on every path by his past mistakes, regrets and other accidents that became a huge architect of his personality.

Another example is also, MODERN JAM & MY EYES, you see how the lyrics contrast here of both tracks which shows how the perspective of the album changes as we move forward.

Part 3: Poster Analysis

Travis is not trying a new yoga pose with his spine cramped.

But it conveys a message too.. You see one of his hands is down which perhaps symbolizes he’s falling in the void of darkness while the other is rising subsequently, signifying the rise of utopia.

People have their own theories, I have my own. After going through the whole album you'd start to see it.
